It’s a new year, and with it comes new opportunities, new clients, and a new tax season. Everyone at TaxDome has been working around the clock to bring you the latest updates to make this tax season and 2025 your best year yet.
From Job custom statuses, role-based automations, and upgraded Zapier integration to the option to mandate two-factor authentication (2FA) for both clients and team members, TaxDome is setting up your firm to be a more secure, client-centered, and efficient practice in 2025.
Sneak peek
Big news for bookkeeping firms!
In Q1, we’ll be rolling out direct integrations with your clients’ general ledgers, starting with QBO. That’s right — all transactions will be visible in TaxDome, and you’ll be able to ask questions, recategorize, and make other updates directly within the TaxDome interface, both for you and your clients.
And best of all – there will be no per-client fees!
Many bookkeepers already use tools like this, paying $10 a month per client connection – so if your team serves 50 businesses, you would be paying $6,000 per year just for that functionality – in TaxDome, it will be included with your plan.

🤖 Workflow
Job custom statuses: automated workflow exceptions
No matter how perfect your workflow is, exceptions come up—that’s why we created Job custom statuses. This update allows you to assign custom statuses to jobs—like ‘Missing Info’ or ‘Needs Extension’—and keep jobs in the same stage of your workflow.
So, if you’re in the middle of a tax preparation job but you’re missing a K-1, you can set the status to ‘Missing Information’ and link a client request for the K-1. As soon as it’s provided, the Job custom status automatically returns your job to ‘active,’ and everything continues moving forward normally.
To get you started, we’ve pre-loaded some statuses for common scenarios. However, the real power here lies within the customization. Job custom statuses live up to their name, and you can create as many unique statuses as your firm needs.
Role-based automations: task assignment with precision
Also, to help keep your workflow running smoothly, we introduced Role-based automations, which define standardized roles for your team, like ‘Bookkeeper,’ ‘Reviewer,’ or ‘Tax Preparer.’
While these labels offer clarity on who is responsible for what within your team, they’re more than just labels—they also power your automations.
When a job moves to a new stage, tasks are created and automatically assigned to the right person for that account based on their role. No more manual reassignment, no more mix-ups—your team knows exactly where to step in, keeping work moving and eliminating delays.
Since TaxDome always strives to offer updates that you can customize to fit your firm’s specific needs, team members can take on multiple roles across different accounts, making it easy to adapt to changing workloads or evolving team dynamics.
🤝 Team management & collaboration
Activity feed: full visibility across all client accounts
Gain complete visibility of everything happening within your firm. Our new Activity feed feature centralizes all account activity in one place with complete oversight, enhancing transparency, accountability, and firm-wide security.
- Improve risk management and compliance: quickly identify and address any issues with the Activity feed’s comprehensive history of all employee and client actions
- Track updates effortlessly: view all account updates, who made them and when, and easily drill down with filter operators for account, date, item, and more
- Gain valuable insights into your staff and clients: monitor staff performance and client interactions—then leverage those behavioral insights to locate areas of improvement and strengthen client relationships
Team capacity: plan for maximum efficiency
Team efficiency starts with smarter workload distribution. With our new Team capacity feature, you can set weekly working hours for staff and monitor their capacity with precise reporting, ensuring effective planning and optimal team performance.
- Balance workloads and boost team efficiency: prevent overloading or underutilizing staff by setting weekly working hours (individually and in bulk), and allocating work according to capacity
- Analyze performance and profitability: compare planned capacity with actual hours worked in real time, and analyze weekly, monthly, and quarterly reports for deeper insights into productivity and profitability
- Plan effectively and with full confidence: with a high-level view of your team’s capacity, make informed, data-supported decisions about taking on additional clients or hiring more staff
Internal notes within secure chats: invisible teamwork, visible results
Collaboration is the key to delivering an exceptional client experience—but managing it behind the scenes shouldn’t disrupt your workflow. With Internal notes within secure chats, you can communicate with your team directly within client chat threads—without your clients ever seeing a thing.
With internal notes, your team can:
- Tag teammates with @mentions to share updates, ask questions, or request input—all within the context of client discussions
- Reply directly to internal messages to keep conversations organized and easy to follow
- Differentiate internal notes from client communication with visually distinct formatting so there’s no confusion between what’s private and what’s client-facing
🔄 Integrations
Zapier: better automation for your firm
Our Zapier integration just got smarter, making your workflows faster and easier than ever. This upgrade helps you connect your favorite tools like Google Sheets and MailChimp.
You can now create accounts and link contacts automatically in TaxDome based on events in other systems. So, if you use an intake form on your website to capture leads, you can now have accounts created in TaxDome automatically.
We’re also working on adding more triggers, so if you have an idea for future triggers or actions, feel free to post it to our feature request board.
📞 CRM
Advanced filters: precision search for growing firms
Managing large client bases is now simpler and more precise with our Advanced filters. This update makes working with multiple tags more intuitive, helping you refine searches with precision and confidence.
Need to reach out to all new clients who require help with annual taxes? Simply go to the Accounts page, select the “All of” operator, and choose tags “1040” and “New client” from the list. Plus, you can use the “Any of” operator with tags like “Leads” and “Prospects” to broaden your reach while staying focused on the right audience.
Want even more control? Operators like “None of” and “Exclude all selected” let you eliminate results that don’t match your criteria. For example, filter out clients who’ve already filed extensions to focus on those who still need your assistance.
This is just the first step in our advanced filters update, and we’re excited to bring you even more tools to save time and streamline your workflows.
🔒 Security
Option to mandate Two-factor authentication (2FA)
Protecting sensitive client data isn’t just a responsibility — it’s a requirement. According to TaxDome’s exclusive Client Satisfaction Report, where we directly surveyed 1,000 accounting clients, 77% say sharing information with their accountant digitally or electronically should include two-factor authentication.
That’s why we’re excited to announce that TaxDome is the only practice management platform letting you set security policies requiring 2FA for both your team and clients.
Previously, clients could enable two-factor authentication on their own. Now, with this new setting, your firm can enforce 2FA as a mandatory security policy. When enabled, clients are provided with clear, step-by-step on-screen instructions to set up two-factor authentication using trusted apps like Google Authenticator or Authy.
And, for firms that prefer a phased approach, our soft-launch functionality lets you gradually transition your team and clients to a higher level of security on your timeline.

😍 Client experience
Last month, we released our industry-first Accounting Client Satisfaction Report, a groundbreaking look into what clients truly value from their accountants. Instead of relying on traditional vendor insights, we went straight to the source, surveying 1,000 accounting clients to uncover what they expect, how to earn their trust in the age of technology, and what services they’d be willing to pay up to 50% more for.
To dive even deeper into the findings, we hosted a webinar with industry experts, including the CEO of an Inc. 5000 business and the Executive Director of the Aprio Firm Alliance. We explored what our research means for accounting professionals and how firms can adapt to meet client demands in 2025.
If you haven’t read it yet, take a moment to download the full report and watch the webinar recording to stop wondering what your clients want and start hearing it straight from them.
🔥 Other
- Link time entries to jobs in bulk: Save time by linking multiple time entries to a single job in one step. This ensures accurate resource allocation and scales effortlessly for larger teams.
- Prepayment requirement for proposals: Ensure financial security by requiring prepayment before work begins. Invoices are automatically linked to proposals, eliminating extra steps and simplifying workflows.
- Edit paid invoices and delete offline payments: Quickly correct errors by editing paid invoices or deleting offline payments. This keeps your financial records accurate and boosts client trust.
- Improved handling of promo credits in payments: Track promo credits separately from other payments for better revenue reporting. Easily exclude promo credits from total revenue to improve accuracy and transparency.
- Set folders for uploaded documents in organizers: Automatically save uploaded files into predefined folders, reducing manual tasks and ensuring consistent document organization.
